Rodrigo de la Cadena and José Adán Pérez perform at Boleros de Medianoche: an evening of boleros and romance in the heart of New York
On Thursday, February 26 at 9:30 pm, Rodrigo de la Cadena and José Adán Pérez will perform together for the first time in New York in a night dedicated to the great Latin American romantic tradition.
New York, February 18, 2026 – 54 Below will host an unforgettable encounter, where these two Mexican voices connect with the history of the bolero in one of the city’s most emblematic intimate venues.
Rodrigo de la Cadena does more than interpret bolero; he has studied it, documented it, and defended it as a living heritage. With more than two decades of career, a repertoire of over 900 songs, and collaborations with artists such as José José, Armando Manzanero, and Lucho Gatica, he has dedicated his career to preserving and reinventing boleros, building a bridge between the golden age of romantic music and contemporary audiences.
Named by Manzanero as “El Último Bohemio,” his work is not driven solely by nostalgia, but by the continuity of a musical aesthetic that values poetry, melodic elegance, and emotional depth.
Joining him for the evening is Mexican baritone José Adán Pérez, trained in the prestigious Domingo-Thornton Young Artist Program, who has shared the stage with renowned figures such as Plácido Domingo and Gustavo Dudamel. His expressive voice and artistic presence strike a balance between opera, symphonic repertoire, and recital performance.
Together, in Boleros de Medianoche, they will pay tribute to essential composers of the genre such as Agustín Lara, Armando Manzanero, Consuelo Velázquez, and María Grever, in an intimate format that highlights lyrics, melody, and nuance. The evening is dedicated to celebrating and preserving a musical heritage that forms an essential part of Mexican and Latin American cultural identity.
At a time when traditional genres and romantic music seek ways to remain relevant, this experience embraces the intimacy of the night to create a profound connection between artists and audience, between past and present, between New York and Latin America.
